Open Doors launched its first competition during lockdown, 2020. The idea was to encourage creativity in the home. Whilst more than a quarter of the worlds population was experiencing some form of lock down, we wanted to provide an outlet for creativity whilst also reinforcing the message…

stay at home, save lives.

ABOUT

We are living through unprecedented times and perhaps the most significant moment of our generation. This pandemic has altered our way of life in such a short space of time and has sent out incomprehensible shockwaves that will be felt by all industries for years to come. Not least the creative industries where many rely on contracted work or gatherings of people in order to generate income, to exhibit and importantly to create.

Open Doors has been thinking about how we can best continue to promote emerging photographic artists but also to encourage a creative response to the situation that millions across the globe now find themselves in. Due to efforts to contain the virus outbreak many people find themselves confined indoors with family, friends, partners or perhaps even alone. Sometimes at home, or in some instances trapped abroad with no route home, at least in the short term.

So we have decided to launch a competition. The competition invites entries from all over the world along the theme of Home. We want you to document our changing reality and to respond to the conditions we now find ourselves in. Whether that is documenting the constraints on family life, creating an innovative approach to self portraiture or finding an abstract beauty in your new every day, we want to see your unique approach to the social constraints we are experiencing.

We will be accepting submissions on this theme for one month, the proceeds of which will be given to charity, a brilliant panel of judges will then pick their favourites. The winners chosen by our judges will have their work made available on the Open Doors Gallery website as fine art prints. The work will be available to purchase for a further month and then those editions will be closed at the end of that month. So the editions will be determined by the time they are available and the demand for those prints. Open Doors will also be working with Setanta books to create a zine of the winners work to be made available later this year.

We believe this is a fantastic opportunity to encourage creativity during a particularly restrictive period, but also to help promote and support emerging artists during what is an extremely difficult time for the industry. But more than that, we can’t wait to see how artists respond to this brief.

So help us spread the word by sharing this competition with friends, family and across social feeds.

Stay safe, stay at home.
