LensCulture Portrait Award Finalists

At last, a good news story...

Open Doors is proud to announce that not one but two OD artists have been announced amongst the finalists of this years LensCulture Portrait Awards, 2020.

The 39 Finalists come from 16 countries on four continents, and their work reflects the dynamic range of contemporary portraiture being made around the world today.

Jeremy Snell‘s Boys of Volta series, Jurors Pick:

“We are well used to stereotypical images of Africa as a deprived or exotic continent, but the approach here is different. While the photographs are seemingly beautiful and exotic, the mood of solitude and loneliness is overwhelming. The photographs appear richly cinematic while at the same time reminding us that for some, there is no happy ending.”
– Selected by Caroline Hunter,
Picture Editor The Guardian Weekend Magazine

Maria Lax, single image category:
Abdou Carnation. A Portrait of Abdourahman Njie.
