Joseph Staples is a collage and photographic artist living and working in Vancouver, Canada. His work focuses on the copy, repetition, and the relationships we have with images. He has shown in streets, galleries and museums across North America and in Europe.
“The Sexual Love series came from a group of photographs illustrating instructions on satisfying your lover.
The images use the same models throughout but focus on sensuality over individuality.
The stiff nature of the text brought me back to the physical and how within sex, our movements and mutual needs are often joined, reacting to each other as bodies rather than individuals.
It led to work that merges the bodies while physically separating the collage layers with wood panels, joining or distancing them depending on your point of view to the work.”
