Single Image Processing
KENSUKE KOIKE

“I always think that limiting freedom can push me to surpass my capacity and imagination. Cutting into the original photograph is always really important to me for that reason. It allows me to deeper understand the possibilities given by one single image.”_

Single Image Processing explores the artist’s defining rule that limits him to using only the image itself. Through meticulous planning and myriad ideas Koike san creates new and coveted forms from vintage and often forgotten vintage photographs. Sometimes his interventions on the print are as simple as a single incision. Instantly twisting the image into a new meaning with wit and skill. Other times his work requires complicated mathematics and impeccable precision to create patterns and repetitions that completely transform the viewer’s impression of the image. The pieces from Single Image Processing can take months of preparation and patience to refine and then implement those ideas onto the print. After all, he only gets one chance to get it right.
Kensuke Koike‘s unique artwork has been exhibited globally at museums & exhibitions around the world. Open Doors Gallery is the UK representative for Kensuke Koike’s art sales.
