Giorgia Bellotti

Giorgia Bellotti [b.1979, Bologna] is currently based in the Emilian Apennines, Italy. Interested in artistic disciplines from an early age, she began her education by concentrating on painting. Subsequently, as a self-taught artist, she approached graphics, becoming increasingly passionate about the aesthetics of the image and the visual message. Still self-taught, she also immersed herself in the world of photography: she discovered that the snapshot was the most suitable tool for expressing her artistic dimension. Today, her intimate self-portraiture articulates her personal experience and explores themes of identity.
“I shoot to grasp what runs beneath the surface. My photography is connected to the most intimate and hidden side of me. It is an incessant attempt at self-definition… In these self-portraits, I am free to be there, as I want, as I feel. I let an emotion emerge, often a suffering, and I try not to withdraw into myself, trying to weave an inner dialogue that also resonates with the viewer.”
