A Big Fat Sky
In A Big Fat Sky, Max Miechowski departs London as a focal point for his work, and journeys to and along the quiet edges of the British east coast, a landscape hemmed by the cold waves that separate Britain from Europe. Reflecting on childhood trips of his own to Skegness, Norfolk, and fond memories aboard his grandfather’s boat in Southwold, the project maps the coastline, retracing old connections and tracking developments across the landscape and the post-industrial communities found there. The work references Dr John Cooper Clarke’s Nation’s Ode to the Coast (2015), a poem celebrating the nation’s enduring love affair with the British coastline, whilst considering ongoing issues of time, change, borders and national
identity.
