Chloe Azzopardi, Open Doors Gallery Chloé Azzopardi [b.1994] is a visual artist living on an island on the outskirts of Paris, France. She works on long-term projects that combine photography, performance, and installation. Situated at the intersection of experimental and documentary photography, her images generate fictional worlds heightened by a sense of strangeness and sensorial intensity. Her research explores ecology, new technologies, and the construction of post-Capitalocene imaginaries.

Chloé Azzopardi’s award winning series Non-Technological Devices is a work of futuristic fiction in which the artist explores alternative forms of cohabitation with the living world. Chloé’s approach is playful and collaborative. Working with natural found materials and to create her work. The results are charming, but also a set of powerful symbols. The series is designed to trigger conversations and to inspire a more harmonious relationship with the natural world

With this project, the artist seeks to generate new desires—images that serve as resources for our collective imagination. How can we depict an alternative future, one that challenges our dreams of a hyper-artificialised world driven by the relentless pursuit of technological progress?

By moving beyond the naïve optimism of returning to nature and the illusions of technological solutionism, the artist searches for narratives that might help us resist political despair and empower action in the face of environmental collapse. Through the use of symbols, the artist questions our relationship to the living world. Pointing to the scarcity of ‘resources’ used in our technologies as well as the logic of extractivism itself in the face of conflicts, political tensions and of course irreparable environmental disasters.

Her series Non Technological Devices was exhibited during Les Rencontres d’Arles, 2024. Her work has also been presented at at PhMuseum, Łódź Fotofestiwal, Encontros da Imagem, InCadaqués, Landskrona Foto, Athens Photo Festival, InCadaqués, Krakow Photomonth, Noorderlicht Photo Festival. The series was also Shortlisted for OD Photo Prize 2023.

Chloé Azzopardi was awarded the ‘New writings of environmental photography’ prize at La Gacilly Festival, the Lucie Foundation’s Emerging Artist grant, and was resident at Villa Perochon during the encounters of young international photography with Joan Fontcuberta.
