Description

Marco Rapaccini [b.1982] is an Italian photographic artist whose practise explores the interplay between memory, place, and the passage of time. Drawing inspiration from both classical and contemporary influences, Rapaccini’s images balance documentary precision with a poetic sensibility. His practice often navigates themes of identity and solitude, using light and composition to create evocative visual storytelling.

Recently his practice has been focused on the cyanotype process. Utilising his skills and knowledge of this early photographic print process to create unique prints across a variety of different paper types and sizes. Reimagining the landscape with his reconfigurations of triptychs and diptychs as well as documenting found objects.

“Litorali is an exploration of the coastal landscape of Castelporziano and Capocotta, a nature reserve near Rome, Italy. These are places I lived in the summer when I was a child, and when I visit them in the winter they alternate in me an alienating calm and the restlessness that comes with a walk through a sacred place. The dunes become islands, mountains, inaccessible tangles of brambles, always with the sound of the waves in the background. An important part of the work is made up of photographs of objects collected on walks: flowers, shells, cuttlefish bones… I chose to work with cyanotypes because it seemed perfectly suited to the nature of the work. It is a process of sedimentation and erosion that forms the image, eventually stabilising but remaining alive.”
— Marco Rapaccini
