Ian Howorth is a photographer currently based in Brighton, UK. Working almost exclusively in analogue film, his eye is magnetised by the sometimes kitsch nature of the UK’s seaside towns. Having lived in various places as a child, Ian’s work looks to unlock a sense of nostalgia from his youth when he used to visit the UK with his father.
Ian’s work takes inspiration from the American pioneers of colour photography Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, as well as European artists such as Luigi Ghirri. He draws upon these visual languages as he explores the UK’s unique landscape, often with witty juxtapositions reminiscent of Martin Parr’s early work. Ian’s immaculate sense of composition steers our attention to the lost details of the everyday or banal.
Ian has published two sold out books to date. Arcadia published by our friends at Setanta Books and In Passing published in house by OD Books. Ian has exhibited at fairs and group exhibitions extensively in the UK and his work is now in collections worldwide.

“I pursue what is close to me – the things that are always there every day yet somehow ignored and not scrutinised. Exploring England through its changing colour palettes, buildings, structures and signage, I attempt to go back to a past I remember as a young boy when England was nothing more than a holiday destination for me.”
