Description

Joseph Staples is a collage and photographic artist living and working in Vancouver, Canada. His work focuses on the copy, repetition, and the relationships we have with images. He has shown in streets, galleries and museums across North America and in Europe.

“The At first, you will only be able to reach this far series came from a series of photographs from an instructional yoga book from the ’70s.

In Vancouver, practicing yoga can be an identity with prescribed clothing, diet, and character traits built into the practice.

By accepting this identity, the idea of “losing one’s self” comes true, but not as yogic or meditation practices intend.

I wanted to take these bodies and remove identity, something collage does naturally, to show a truer idea of consistent practice.”
