Dino Kužnik (b.1986) is a New York based photographer, originally from Slovenia. Dino uses photography as a medium to immortalise aesthetically unique scenes through his approach to composition and colour. One of the key driving factors behind his personal work is the symbolism of Americana. Something he has been acutely aware of from a very young age growing up in Slovenia.

“The majority of my personal work is rooted in the westernisation of my home country during the 1990s. The goal was to forget Slovenia’s socialist past and make capitalism a success story. So growing up with American imagery and values on TV and in music and print, the American spirit was communicated through established symbols. This resulted in an attraction to American symbolism, which I started incorporating into my photographic work when I moved to the so-called ‘land of the free.’ The dream was realised, but the realities were much different from those presented to me as a child.” – Dino Kužnik, 2020

Dino is an experienced journalistic photographer with several years in the industry. Over the past few years he has been focusing on personal projects. His debut book published by Ain’t Bad, 2020, sold out within months and with numerous exhibitions and solo shows over this time we feel now is the perfect time to collect his work.

Dino has been exhibited at Sony World Photography Awards & Martin Parr Exhibition at Somerset House in London, Street Sans Frontieres in Paris, Arles, and Trieste, Change of Space Exhibition in Toronto, as well as other group exhibitions in Ljubljana and New York. Dino is currently exhibiting his first solo exhibition in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2021. Dino was shortlisted for the Palm Photo Prize, 2020, named the ambassador of URTH (formerly Gobe), received the Creative Residency Community Fund from Adobe, and was again invited to act as a juror at the 2020 Urban Photo Awards.
